Luigi Legnani (Ferrara 1790 – Ravenna 1877), chitarrista, violinista e apprezzato cantante, è autore di numerose opere per chitarra. Fra queste spicca la celebre raccolta dei 36 Capricci op. 20, in cui l’originalità e la varietà della scrittura permettono di esplorare tutte le risorse dello strumento, anche in tonalità inconsuete. In quest’opera – che riveste un ruolo di primo piano non solo in ambito didattico ma anche concertistico – Legnani ha saputo coniugare sapientemente cantabilità e virtuosismo, con notevoli effetti strumentali e timbrici. La revisione e la diteggiatura, realizzate da Giovanni Podera e Giulio Tampalini, si sono basate scrupolosamente sugli originali, pubblicati nel 1822 dall’editore Artaria di Vienna e nel 1825 dall’editore Richault di Parigi. Il cd allegato contiene l’esecuzione integrale dei Capricci interpretati da Giulio Tampalini.

Luigi Legnani (Ferrara 1790 – Ravenna 1877), guitarist, violinist and respected singer, wrote numerous works for the guitar. The most impressive is his 36 Caprices Op. 20, which is exceptional in its variety and originality, exploring all the facets of the instrument, often in unusual key signatures. With this work – which has a prominent place not just in the teaching room but on the concert stage – Legnani has skilfully married melodic inspiration to impressive virtuosity, making use of many remarkable effects, both in sound and technique. The editing and fingering, by Giovanni Podera and Giulio Tampalini, have been meticulously based upon the original editions, published in 1822 by Artaria in Vienna, and in 1825 by Richault in Paris. The accompanying CD features all the Caprices performed by Giulio Tampalini.
