In 1988, Brad Jones entered Guitar

Player Magazine's International Guitar

Competition with his own composition

Back Porch Boogie and a rendition

of Umehouse Blues. He entered

on a whim, at the last minute, using

a $1.50 K-Mart cassette tape and a

boom box. There were almost 900 entries,

and he won on the first ballot.

In 1990, he won the National Fingerpicking

Championship at Winfield,

Kansas. In the last years he has performed

with Chet Atkins, Tommy

Jones, Marcel Dadi, Thom Bresh and

John Knowles. He is a regular at the

annual conventions in Nashville and

France of the Chet Atkins Appreciation

Society. In France they have

dubbed him LE MACHINE GUN.

An experienced and inspiring instructor, Jorma teaches at a leisurely pace, taking care to point out all the possible variations that will enable you to make each song your own.
JOrma reviews the chord positions needed for each song, slowing them down phrase-by-phrase so that even relative beginners will be able to play the piece with some practice. He discusses his alternate bass thumb work and adds runs, bens, double-stops, bass walk-ups, blues licks, turnarounds, endings and ornamental notes to enhance your fingerpicking and blues arrangements.
Each song features a dynamic live performance by Jorma and Barry Mitterhoff.

Jorma Kaukonen started out as an acoustic fingerpicker before becoming a rock legend as lead guitarist for the Jefferson Airplane and Hot Tuna. (He and the Airplane were included into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995). Jorma has released more than two-dozens albums, both solo and in various groups. In recent years, he has been pursuing the acoustic blues and country fingerpicking styles that he has always loved best. A lifelong interest in teaching has resulted in several Homespun instructional videos.

Marcel Dadi (1951-1996) is termed "the Chet Atkins of France." He was known as one of the world's premier fingerstyle guitarists. He performed and recorded with Steve Morris, Albert Lee, Chet Atkins, Larry Coryell, and many others. During his career he released nearly 20 albums and was the organizer of the European equivalent of Nashville's Chet Atkins Appreciation Society. He was an expert on the guitar styles of Merle Travis, Doc Watson, Jerry Reed and Chet Atkins. His personal fingerpicking style incorporated influences from all four of these great guitarists.

Marcel was born in Tunisia and grew up in Paris. He played on stage for the first time at age 12 and was influenced by the English rock scene of the '60s. Bernard Photzer introduced Dadi to country licks, the rudiments of rock, and the repertoire of Elvis. At the age of 13 a neighbor, Bernard Laux, introduced Marcel to the music of Chet Atkins. Marcel took to Chet's music with a passion and learned many of his songs from recordings. Performing at the age of 19, Dadi introduced the fingerpicking style to appreciative French audiences. He began writing columns for popular music magazines and was a champion of Chet Atkins' music. In 1973 Dadi met Chet Atkins and they performed together in 1977 at the Olympia theater in Paris. Through his broad influence Marcel furthered the cause of fingerstyle guitar throughout the world. His tragic death left his wife, two sons, and a daughter.
