Ted McCarty's Golden Era: 1948-1966
Series: Book
Publisher: GH Books
Format: Softcover
Author: Gil Hembree

Gibson Guitars: Ted McCarty's Golden Era is a long overdue book that covers the world's greatest period of guitar manufacturing. As CEO of Gibson Guitars from 1948 to 1966, Ted McCarty presided over the production of nearly one million instruments and amplifiers. 1950s Gibson Les Paul Standards, Flying Vs, Explorers, and ES-335s are considered to be some of the most valuable fretted instruments in the world.

This book is Ted McCarty's first and only complete biography, and a book that gives us a glimpse into a golden era of his factory and his loyal employees who made some of the world's most desirable guitars. It features over 100 photographs, some from Ted's personal archives and never before published.

“Ted McCarty was the architect of a Golden period in Gibson's history. During his 18-year tenure, he helped to reestablish the company's historic leadership in the industry through a number of musical innovations that still resonate today.” Gibson Chairman and CEO Henry E. Juszkiewicz

LES PAUL LEGACY 1968-2009 THE MODERN ERA OF THE-Robb Lawrence LIBRO ILLUSTRATO CHITARRA

LES PAUL LEGACY 1968-2009 THE MODERN ERA OF THE. Robb Lawrence.

The Modern Era of the Les Paul Legacy 1968-2009
Series: Book
Publisher: Hal Leonard
Format: Hardcover
Author: Robb Lawrence

Following the release of The Early Years..., which Vintage Guitar magazine called “carefully crafted ... lavishly illustrated,” this full-color book continues the amazing journey of an American icon's recording career and the coveted instruments that bear his name. Beginning with the collectible late '60s models, The Modern Les Paul Legacy moves on to the '70s and '80s special-themed instruments – showing all popular artist models, like Jimmy Page, Joe Perry, and Slash, in living color. And the “holy grail” '59 Sunburst and the jaw-dropping Custom Shop creations of the '90s receive their due as achievements that have never, to this day, been surpassed. The book also covers Les Paul's resurgence – the comeback Grammy Award-winning album with Chet Atkins, the start of a weekly gig in a New York City jazz club, and the reconnection with the Gibson family. Since Les Paul's death in August 2009, this will be the first book that covers his entire life, including his last performances at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the memorials in New York, and the burial in his hometown in Wisconsin.

INTRODUCTION

Welcome to Modal Soloing Strategies for Guitar, the only book about the modes
you may ever need. This book is for intermediate to advanced guitarists desiring
a thorough understanding of modes and their applications for improvising. For
those unfamiliar with the basics of notation and music theory, there is a review
starting on the next page. If you are already familiar with these basics, you can
skip the review and jump ahead to page 20.
The modes have been in existence for centuries as compositional tools for classical,
folk, and ethnic musicians, as improvisational devices for jazz musicians, and a
source of "new" sounds for rock, pop, and country artists. But, unfortunately,
the subject has been shrouded in mystery, causing many guitar students a lot of
confusion. The confusion may be due to an incomplete overview of the subject.
There are many ways of looking at modes and each one has an important place
in understanding and applying the modes to improvising, composition, or both.
Although modes can be derived from both major and minor scales, this book deals
only with the modes of the major scale. Each chapter is devoted to a particular
mode and will include:
• A notated list of the mode in twelve keys
• Perspective #1: The modal formula, a look at where the half steps occur in
the scale and how it relates horizontally to the fretboard
• Perspective #2: The mode's relationship to the diatonic harmony
• Perspective #3: The mode created by altering another scale
• Perspective #4: The mode's intervallic distance from the "parent" key,
measuring from the root of a chord
• Perspective #5: Deducing a mode's key signature
• Six closed-position fingerings
• Open-position fingerings in every key
• The harmonized mode, with sample chord voicings
• Mode usage
• Practice suggestions
• Licks
• Melodic patterns
• Backing track to practice soloing
Also, sample solos utilizing most of the modes in various combinations have been
included at the end of the book.
One way this book is different from many others is that three fingering options are
covered. The first is the horizontal approach along the single string. The second
is the use of "locked" fingerings or scales that are played in a fixed position. The
third fingering option is the "open" position. When any musical concept is explored
on the guitar, a more complete understanding is accomplished by examining all
three fingering options.
It should be noted here that, while a clear understanding of the modes is important,
it represents only a part of what is needed to become an accomplished improviser.
Modes, in conjunction with other scales, arpeggios, and licks, are only part of the
picture. Improvisation is a lifetime study. Try to keep this in mind.
Each chapter of this book is complete so it's all right to skip around. You can also
move straight through from beginning to end for a very comprehensive study. To
get the most out of this book, you need to transpose all exercises and fingerings in
all twelve keys. At first this may seem like a hassle, but in time it will get easier
and payoff in the form of greater fluency.

NOTATION AND THEORY REVIEW

Tablature (TAB)
Tablature (TAB) is a system of notation that graphically represents the strings and frets of the guitar fingerboard. Each note is indicated by placing a number, which indicates the fret to play, on the appropriate string.

Scale Diagrams
This book is loaded with scale diagrams. The top line represents the first string of the guitar, and the bottom line the sixth. The vertical lines represent frets, which are numbered with Roman numerals.

The root Scale tones First string

Chord Diagrams
Chord diagrams are similar to scale diagrams, except they are oriented vertically instead of horizontally. Vertical lines represent strings, and horizontal lines represent frets. Roman numerals are used to number the frets.

FLATPICKING GUITAR FESTIVAL, Stefan Grossman, David Bromberg, Dick Fegy. CD TABLATURE

FLATPICKING GUITAR FESTIVAL, S. Grossman, D. Bromberg, D. Fegy. CD TAB.

Product Description:
A collection of 16 hot, intermediate-level flatpicking guitar solos from five of the leading exponents of this technique, plus a CD featuring performances of all of the tunes. David Bromberg is known as the leader of one of the most successful acoustic bands of the 1970's and 1980's. The Kitchen Girl, a fine Kentucky tune, is an example of Bromberg's good taste in choosing material. Dick Fegy is a master picker of fiddle tunes and is the most heavily-featured player in the collection. San Francisco Bay area favorite Eric Thompson crosses old-time with traditional Irish playing. Michael Aumen contributes three tunes associated with Clarence White and a very interesting version of Soldier's Joy, with a flair that pushes the limits of the hot country style. Richard Lieberson is a fine bluegrass picker who has developed a convincing swing jazz style with exciting results, and a touch of humor. Written in notation and tablature.

Connection and operating devices:
The product case is printed with all relevant information! There is one 6,3mm TRS jack socket and
an adjustment switch for the input level next to it. On this side you find the input switch, it switches
between LINE, instrument, MIC and MIC with +48V phantom power. On the opposite side there
are two light-emitting diodes, the signal (green) and an overdrive (red) LED. On this side you find 2
Phono (RCA) sockets for the output. Connect these LINE out sockets with a regular Phono (RCA)
cable to an amplifier. On the front of the Guitarface you find the 3,5mm TRS jack socket of the
headphone output, the small wheel adjacent to the socket allows you to adjust volume. All outputs,
the LINE out and the headphone out, all provide the same mix. Only in instrument mode the
headphone out carries both PC sound and the instrument signal, you can adjust the input level of the
instrument with the headphone output wheel to monitor the instrument directly. In this mode the
LINE out only carries the PC audio signal.

Connecting the Guitarface to your computer
Connecting the Guitarface to a computer is very easy! Simply connect your Guitarface, with the
included USB cable, to a free USB port on your computer. When the Guitarface is attached the
green LED lights up briefly to signal a good power supply to the Guitarface. The installation under
Windows will then take place automatically, a few seconds after connecting to your computersystem
it will find a "USB Audio Codec" or "USB Audio Device", which can be used in each
application and adjusted in the system control. Using the USB connection your digitized audio data
can now be transferred to your computer!

LINE input
Switch the input adjustment switch to "LINE". Connect your Player device with a stereo cable to
the 6,3mm TRS jack socket marked "Input". Now adjust the input-level with the little wheel next to
the input socket. You can connect any devices with a LINE level output, e.g. Tape deck or CD
players.

Instrument input
Switch the input adjustment switch to "GUITAR". Connect your electric guitar or bass with a mono
cable to the 6,3mm TRS jack socket marked "Input". Now adjust the input-level with the little
wheel next to the input socket. Note: the mono instrument will be played on both sides of the
headphone out.

MIC input
Switch the input adjustment switch to "MIC". Connect your dynamic microphone to the 6,3mm
TRS jack socket marked "Input". Now adjust the input-level with the little wheel next to the input
socket.

MIC with +48V phantom power input ATTENTION!
Please firstly connect your condenser microphone with a symmetric microphone cable to the 6,3mm
TRS jack socket marked "Input". Switch the input adjustment switch to "+48V". Please note, that
switching the phantom power on makes a noise, that can damage your speaker system. Please
REDUCE THE LEVEL of your amplifier BEFORE switching to "+48V"! After one minute the
phantom power is ready to work! Now adjust the input-level with the little wheel next to the input
socket.

Signal and peak indicator LEDs
The two LEDS indicate an incoming audio signal to the Guitarface. With a correct level the green
signal LED lights up. The red peak LED only lights up when the signal level is too high, use the
input level wheel to adjust the signal level down to just below peak

LINE-Output (Stereo RCA Jacks)
Connect your amplifier to these outputs for monitor recordings or sounds from the computer.

Headphone-Output (Stereo Mini Jack 3,5 mm)
Connect your headphone to this output to monitor recordings or sounds from the computer.

The Guitarface runs under hard disk recording programs in the "Full Duplex Mode" (simultaneous
admission and rendition) usually only with ASIO Multimedia drivers, the Windows WDM driver
only permits one direction (admission or rendition) at the same time. We recommend that you
download the Guitarface ASIO driver from our homepage www., or use the "ASIO for
ALL" driver for the Audioface under Windows XP. The ASIO driver makes it possible to use
monitoring- and full duplex- modes. Additionally, the latency time of the audio signal will be
substantially reduced.

Hard disk-recording software "Magix Samplitude SE"
The bundled software, which is shipped with the Guitarface, is special software for multiple hard
disk recording, cutting and editing recorded music and speech.

Regarding the driver set-up in "Samplitude SE"
To set-up the drivers for Guitarface in "Samplitude SE", click the menus "options" and "system
options" in the "audio set-up". If you have installed an ASIO driver, you can adjust this here as a
"record and play" device - please choose the driver for Guitarface. Below this the actual latency
time will be displayed after selecting the driver, also, by clicking the button "Attitudes" you can
adjust the buffer size and the latency time of the driver itself. The latency time is system-dependent
and is different in different personal computers. Choose a value as low as possible, if you adjust too
low you hear interference noises, set the buffer and latency time of the driver just above the noise
threshold.

Setting up "Amplitube 2 Duo" as a VST effect in "Samplitude SE"
To set-up the ampsimulation "Amplitube 2 Duo" in "Samplitude SE", click the menus "options" and
"system options" in the "effects set-up". In "VST/DirectX setup" you can adjust the VST plugin
folder, please choose the folder, where the VST version of "Amplitube 2 Duo" is installed.
In a track of Samplitude you can now choose under "plugins" to use the virtual amplifiers of
"Amplitube 2 Duo"!

We hope you get a lot of enjoyment from this exciting program! After installation and activation via
www.magix.de this version is fully functioning.

Guitar amp simulation software "IK Multimedia Amplitube 2 Duo"
IK Multimedia`s software "Amplitube 2 Duo" is a guitar amp simulation with 2 different amplifiers
and 30 presets of american guitar amplifiers. You can use it standalone or as a VST effects plugin,
with Samplitude, Cubase, Sonar or any other VST compatible sequencer sofware.
If you run "Amplitube 2 Duo" standalone, please download and install our ASIO driver for the

Guitarface first from our homepage.
You can setup the Guitarface with it´s ASIO
driver in the "settings" and "audio setup" menu. Here you can adjust the sample buffers, which has
direct influence to the latency times of the Guitarface. Choose a value as low as possible, if you
adjust too low you hear interference noises, set the buffer and latency time of the driver just above
the noise threshold.
