MONTGOMERY WES, Essential Jazz Lines in the Style of. CD TABLATURE

LIBRO DI MUSICA PER CHITARRA CON CD E TABLATURE.

Product Description:
Wes Montgomery took jazz guitar to a new level when he came to the public's attention in the late 1950's. Known for his fluid lines and his big jazz guitar sound, Wes influenced thousands of guitarists in the styles of jazz, blues, and rock. This book will present some of the soloing techniques that Wes used as well has present many melodic ideas (lines) similar to the way he played over the chord progression in many jazz standards. Because the major and minor ii-V-I progression are the most widely used chord progression in jazz standards, the lines in this text will work over these progressions. The accompanying CD contains many play-along tracks (vamps of one chord and vamps around the circle of fourths) that the student should use to practice the material in one key and then master it in all twelve keys. By learning the techniques used by Wes Montgomery, guitarists will add to their own improvising arsenal. As improvising musicians add to their collection of musical ideas, their ability to express themselves completely increases. Have fun studying these ideas and applying them in improvised solos.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Jean Marc Belkadi started playing guitar at age 14. He graduated from the
Toulouse Music Conservatory in his hometown. In 1984,he left France for the
u.s. to learn at the Musicians Institute of Technology in Los Angeles where he
received the Best Guitar of the Year Award.
In 1989 and 1992he was awarded third and second prize at the Billboard Song
Contest. For three years he was musical director of the Johnny Hune TV show.
He has written two guitar method books addressing Jazz, Fusion and Rock
soloists and recorded one solo album.

INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this book is not to be a guitar method book with a captalIM."
Rather, it is intended as a source of inspiration to help you develop your own
ideas. The three key areas that I focus on and encourage you to explore are:

Melody
In any style of music you are into, the melodic direction, sound, and phrasing
are the first and most important things to consider. For this reason-and to
develop the connection between your ear and fingers-I recommend that you
sing all the lines (slowly at first).

Harmony
All of the lines are performed against a certain chordal background. However,
they can also be used with other chords and will sound different in each context.
I encourage you to experiment by playing them in different chordal contexts using
a tape recorder, a synthesized background, a friend, or whatever you may have
available.

Technique
This book is geared for guitar players and makes use of various techniques that
are unique to the guitar, including alterna te, sweep, and skip picking, hammer-ons,
pull-offs, and tapping. Play the lines very slowly and accurately at first and
gradually speed up. Don't forget that the melody should sound natural to you at
any tempo. The harmony should be implicit, your phrasing clean, and timing
perfect.
Let's begin now! I hope you will enjoy this as much as l do ...

Editor's notes:
Follow the audio icons in the book to keep your spot on the CD.
A short "introductory" solo portion may sometimes precede the main lick of each
figure, to give it a better sense of context. However, only the main lick itself
appears transcribed in each case.

Introduction
In contemporary music, the use of triads is an important element in improvisation and composition.
They are as prevalent as scales, modes, arpeggios, rhythms, and intervallic ideas.
Like scales and modes, triads can be substituted in tonal and modal music. They can also be
superimposed, creating bitonality or polytonality. Superimposed triads give us synthetic scales
such as hexatonic (6 note scales = 2 triads), or nonatonic scales (9 note scales = 3 triads).
What Is a Triad?
A triad is a three-note chord made up of a root, third, and fifth. There are four triad families:
Major triad: 1-3-5
Minor triad: 1-b3-5
Diminished triad: 1-b3-b5
Augmented tri ad: 1-3-# 5
Of course, in everyday applications triads are played with different inversions:
Root position
1-3-5

Inversion possibilities
3-5-1, 5-1-3, 3-1-5, etc.

Sometimes triads are played with one degree dispersed an octave higher:

regular triads
open triads

This dispersement procedure creates what is referred to as an open triad, and can be applied
to minor, diminished, and augmented triads, as well as major.

Triad Substitution
Triad substitution is where one triad is substituted in place of another. One of the most common
is flat-five-or tri-tone substitution. This is when a triad a flat-fifth degree (tri-tone) away is
substituted for a chord. For example: instead of playing a G major triad over a G7 chord, a Db
major triad (Db is a flat-fifth away from G) is "substituted."

Triad Superimposition
Triad superimposition is where two or more triads are played one after the other, creating a
"dispersed scale" effect of bitonality or polytonality. Of course all triads can be substituted or superimposed
in both tonal and modal music, either using the single-note approach or voiced in chord form.

About this Book
The purpose of this book is to help you to create your own ideas using triad concepts. It is
divided into two parts: tonal music (II-V-I chord progressions, Chapters 1 and 2) and modal
music (Chapters 3 and 4). Keep in mind that the examples do not follow a specific order
of difficulty; you can jump in anywhere and work with the licks you like best. You also might want
to listen to the CD first to locate the examples that appeal to you the most.

About the Audio
Throughout this book, the numbers in the audio symbols (+) indicate the CD track number
where each example will be found on the accompanying CD.
Each example is played at full tempo, and most are repeated at half speed. In addition, short
introductory phrases (which are not transcribed in the examples) are sometimes included to provide
a better sense of context and to maintain an improvisational feel.

ARPEGGIOS FOR THE MODERN GUITARIST, The Complete Guide, Including Theory, Patterns, Techniques. CD TABLATURE

ARPEGGIOS FOR THE MODERN GUITARIST, The Complete Guide, Including Theory, Patterns, Techniques and Applications. CD TABLATURE

Series: Guitar Educational
Medium: BOOK W/CD TAB
Author: Stephen Ross

Using this no-nonsense book/CD pack, guitarists will learn to apply and execute all types of arpeggio forms using a variety of techniques, including alternate picking, sweep picking, tapping, string skipping, and legato. This is not just another arpeggio book, but a methodical approach to expanding your skills as a guitarist - and as a musician!

INTRODUCTION

Why this book?
OK, so here's another book on arpeggios. What makes this one different from the others? Most arpeggio
books I have seen focus primarily on forms with little information on how to play them effectively. In this
book, the forms given are designed around certain techniques such as sweep picking, alternate picking, legato
playing, two-hand tapping, and multi-finger tapping. If you can play one form well using one particular technique,
you should not have too much trouble playing the other forms well using that same technique.
Prerequisites
Many musicians think of arpeggios as an intermediate to advanced topic-and they're right! To use this book
effectively, you should understand what scales and modes are, know how to play and transpose them in
different keys, understand basic chord theory, and have some knowledge of meter and rhythm.

Methodology
An arpeggio book must teach the student arpeggio forms and show how to execute and apply them. The challenge
in creating a successful text is carefully blending and balancing these topics.

1. Learning arpeggio forms: To learn arpeggio forms effectively, they must be organized in a
structured and logical manner. This book organizes arpeggios by tonality and harmonic complexity.
The tonality of the arpeggio is simply designated as major, dominant, minor, diminished,
or augmented. Harmonic complexity is closely related to the number of notes in the
chord formula; for example, a Gmaj13 arpeggio is considered more harmonically complex than a G major.
To make memorizing arpeggio forms easier, forms that are harmonically complex are sometimes
built by stacking basic forms; for example, seventh arpeggios, which have four-note
chord formulas, can be built by stacking three-note triad forms. This approach is utilized
quite frequently throughout the text.

2. Playing arpeggio forms: This book integrates practice tips and execution notes throughout
each chapter. Techniques covered in this book include alternate picking, sweep picking, hammer-
ons and pull-offs, two-hand tapping, and string skipping.

3. Application: Integrating arpeggios into your playing style is the part of the process that
takes the longest amount of time, but is also the most rewarding. By the time you are finished
with this book, you should be well on your way to integrating the arpeggio forms illustrated
in this book as well as your own into your playing style

There have certainly been many musical acts that have changed the face of pop music forever: Elvis, the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, etc. However, most bands that affect the musical world in this way usually enjoy fairly long recording careers of a decade or more. Jimi Hendrix turned the music world (let alone the guitar world!) upside down, and he did it with a recording career that lasted just over three years. In this second volume of Jimi Hendrix Signature Licks, we'll explore twelve more classics from the Hendrix catalog. We'll study each one in depth, focusing on the tone, guitar techniques, production techniques, compositional devices, and all the other aspects that made Hendrix the undeniable musical force that he was. From the delicate "Angel" to the mellow otherworldliness of "Third Stone from the Sun" and the magical virtuosic display of "Machine Gun," we'll get a glimpse into all facets of Jimi's unbridled guitar genius. All of the guitar parts are represented on the accompanying recording, and the difficult guitar parts are slowed down and isolated for closer examination. While every effort has been made to duplicate the sounds heard on the original recordings, please remember that there is only one Hendrix; in order to truly experience his music you need to listen to his definitive versions. Now let's get on it with it, and prepare to have your guitarplaying mind blown...

THE RECORDING
Doug Boduch: guitar
Warren Wiegratz: keyboards
Tom McGirr: bass
Scott Schroedl: drums

Recorded at The Dream Factory, Madison, WI
Produced by Jake Johnson
The audio icons in the book to keep your spot on the CD. The track icons are placed after the figure numbers at the top of each figure. When more than one icon appears after a figure, the first track listed is a recording of the figure in full. All other track numbers listed are notable guitar parts played more slowly.

Figure 5-Guitar Solo 3
Hendrix's musical genius simply shines in the third solo. He begins by kicking on the wah wah and climbing up the C# minor pentatonic scale in sixteenth-note octaves. He follows this in measure 3 with a sixteenth-note line out of home base: the C# minor pentatonic scale in ninth position. He remains in this position for the sixteenth-note lick in measures 5-6, but he includes the hip 9th (D#) note for a hexatonic scale sound (C#-D#-E-F#-G#-B). He finishes off this eight-measure section with two unison bends: C# over C#m in measure 7, and D# over A in measure 8, resulting in a colorful Lydian (#4) tonality. Throughout these first eight measures, the articulation of the wah wah pedal results in a beautiful, lazy, behind-the-beat feeling that grabs the attention of the listener and doesn't let go. It's a real lesson in how the rhythmic phrasing of a line can add a whole new dimension to a phrase.
Hendrix turns off the wah for the second section of the solo, which turns out to be the most unique-sounding guitar work in the song. Working from the top two strings of an E barre chord shape, Hendrix creates a descending double-stop motive that alternates the 9th and tonic over the 5th for each of the C#m and B chords. He moves this same doublestop shape down again for the A chord, but abandons the 9th/tonic approach for something even more interesting and ear-grabbing. Here he moves to strings 2 and 3 and slides up into an E/G double stop, implying a bluesy A7 tonality, an unheard sound as of yet. He moves this 5th/b7th double stop up a step to F#/A for the B chord in beat 3, punctuating beat 4 with an A/C dyad-the b7th and b9th of B! Measure 11 is essentially a repeat of measure 9 (with slight variation), but he changes things up again for measure 12. As if not to wear out his newfound harmonic interpretations so quickly, Hendrix fills out the remainder of the measure with a barrage of muted sixteenth-note strums for a purely rhythmic effect. Measures 13-14 are essentially a repeat of 9-10, and Jimi rounds out the section with a series of ascending unison bends that climb through the C# minor pentatonic scale. This results in an eight-measure phrase that makes effective use of the "question-answer" approach, repeating earlier parts of the phrase with alternate endings each time. Make sure and notice the difference that the rock-solid rhythmic delivery plays in this section when contrasted with the first eight measures of the solo. Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant!
