RAMON MONTOYA SALAZAR (1880-1949) geb. in Madrid, wurde als der GraBte der
GroBen bezeichnet. Sein tremolo und arpegio war einmalig fur jene Zeit. Er trans ponierte
die Granaina nach e-moll und kreierte die Rondefia mit ®=D und ®=f#. Ihm
ist zu verdanken, daB die Flamencogitarre einen groBen Schritt weiterkam. Sehr zu

LUIS YANCE FERNANDEZ (1892-1938) war auch ein Gitarrist der modernen »Ramon-

MANUEL SORUVE ALVAREZ »MANOLO DE BADAJOZ" (1892-1962), begleitete auf vielen
Schallplatten aile GraBen des cante.

MANOLO DE HUELVA (1899-1979). Der Gitarrist ANDRES SEGOVIA. der vom Flamenco
nicht sehr viel hielt, bezeichnete ihn als den graBten Flamencogitarristen. Aus seiner
Schule kamen u.a. ESTEBAN DE SANLUCAR, DIEGO DEL GASTOR undMELCHOR DE MARCHE A-

PERICO EL DEL LUNAR (1894-1964) geb. in Jerez, ist auf vielen Aufnahmen (antologias)

leitete die Aufnahmen zu der bekannten antologia von Hispavox

MANUEL SERRAPI »NINO RICARDO" (1905-1972), geb. in Sevilla, kann als Schliisselfigur
unter den Flamencogitarristen bezeichnet werden. Die riesige Sammlung an jalsetas.
die er hinterlieB, wurde fUrjeden nachfolgenden Gitarristen zur Pflichtiibung und zahlt
zu den Standards. Viele Gitarristen, die seinejalsetas spielten, waren oft der Meinung.

DIEGO »EL GASTOR" (1906-1973), gitano aus Moron de la Frontera (Sevilla). Seine
Bulerias sind bis heute unvergessen. Diego's Hande konnten alles spielen, was ibm
gerade einfiel. Er kreierte jalsetas auf der Buhne, oft waren diese jalsetas einmalig.
man harte sie nie wieder von ihm. Er spielte nur, wenn er wirklich Lust hatte. Er war
ein sehr introvertierter und mystischer Mensch und wollte nie Schallplattenaufnahmen
machen.

ESTEBAN DE SANLOCAR, geb. 1910 in Sanlucar (Cadiz). Setzte aus der Schule von

MANOLO DE HUELVA die Entwicklung des toque fort. Ein Perfektionist mit groBern..
sauberen Ton. Er ging nach Buenos Aires und ist in Spanien wenig bekannt.

MELCHOR GIMENEZ TORRES »MELCHOR DE MARCHE A« (1907 -1980). Er war der Speziali
im acompaiiamiento el cante. »Un tocaor corto pero muy flamenco«. Sein Sohn.

ENRIQUE DE MELCHOR, geht in den FuBstapfen seines Vaters. Er ist einer der gefragtesten
und beliebtesten Cante-Begleiter. Sehr zu empfehlen: Maestros de la Guitarra - Melch
de Marchena, Hispavox 40 32581
PEPEMOTOS, geb. 1930 in Salamanca gewann mit seiner Musik fUrden Film »Estrell
Mora« 1955 den Nationalpreis und reprasentierte Spanien auf der Weltaustellung .

AGUSTIN CASTELLON CAPOS »SABICAS" (1912-1990), geb. in Pamplona. Schon mit 1
Jahren wurde er vonDON RAMON MONTOYA gelobt und respektiert. Sein Name kOITlIDl
daher, daB er als Kind gerne »habas« (grune Bohnen) aB, zu denen er »habicas« sagte
Daraus wurde dann »El nino de las habicas«. SABICAS bleibt ein unvergeBlicher maestro.
virtuos im Solospiel und mit absoluter Compas-Sicherheit. Er spielte unzahlig viel
Schallplatten ein. Besonders zu erwahnen »Flamenco Puro«, zu der auch Note
erhaltlich sind und die legendare Aufnahmen mitCARMEN AMAYA, die mit nur eine
Mikrofon aufgenommen wurden. Ais der Burgerkrieg ausbrach, ging er nach Mexik
und kam nie wieder zuruck. Warum weiB niemand genau. Man erzahlt sich, daB Sabic
nie in ein Flugzeug stieg, sondern immer per Schiff unterwegs war. Ab 1957 lebte
mit seiner Familie in New York. Sehr zu empfehlen: LP/CD, Sabicas - Flamenco Puro.
