Freddie's vast repertoire of blues classics offers cool hooks, hot solos, and foot-tapping rhythms for the contemporary electric guitarist. In this DVD, Host Duke Robillard (Roomful of Blues, Fabulous Thunderbirds) gives invaluable insights into the style of this legendary guitarist. He takes you through a select group of Freddie's greatest songs (Hideaway • San-Ho-Zay • The Stumble • Sen-sa-shun) lick by lick, revealing the inner workings of this master musician. Rare performance footage is also included as a special bonus! 54 minutes.
The most virtuosic blues King, big bad Freddie was a spectacular guitarist, as well as a first rate singer and accomplished songwriter. As a transplanted Texan who moved to Chicago in the fifties, Freddie rubbed shoulders with the likes of Buddy Guy, Otis Rush and Magic Sam. When he started churning out instrumental and vocal hits for the Cincinatti-based King Records in the early sixties, his music combined the soul of Chicago blues with the swinging drive of Texas shuffles. By the seventies he had been discovered by the rock audience, and luminaries like Leon Russell and Eric Clapton clamored to produce him and play with him. Freddie's vast repertoire of blues classics offer cool hooks, hot solos and foottapping rhythms for the contemporary electric guitarist. Nearly every blues band and quite a few rock bands have always included at least one of his signature songs, be it "Hideaway" or "Have You Ever Loved a Woman," in their set lists. His legacy as the epitome of the hip Texas guitar slinger lives on in the licks of the greatest guitar players today.
DUKE ROBILLARD
As the founder of Roomful of Siut's, guitarist extraordinaire Duke Robillard showed his ability as a player and his knowledge of swing era blues. The Rhode Island-based hom band was especially adept at playing the music of T-Bone Walker. Since leaving Roomful Of Blues, Duke has demonstrated that his talents extend to all styles of American guitar music. A stint with the Fabulous Thunderbirds proclaimed his fierce Texas chops while his critically acclaimed solo recordings have covered the spectrum from swing jazz to rockabilly to Chicago blues and beyond. As he did with T-Bone Walker on Volume 1 of the Bluesmasters series, Duke once again gives invaluable insights into the style of a legendary blues guitarist. Using a select group of Freddie's greatest songs, he takes you through each one lick by lick, revealing the inner workings of a master musician. Rare performance footage of Freddie King is included to enrich the unique learning experience offered in this exclusive video lesson.
